In Spain, tourism is highly sensitive to the climate, making it particularly vulnerable to climate change. The weather exerts a major influence in terms of the most attractive regions, seasonality, tourism infrastructures and their operations and the conditions affecting tourists’ wellbeing and their enjoyment.
In the first place, climate change impacts on geographical considerations for tourism, and may have a negative impact on the existing ecosystems that in turn affects the assets and services these ecosystems offer the tourism sector. The most vulnerable areas to climate change are located on the coast, which constitutes Spain’s greatest tourist product, sun and sand tourism, and the mountain ranges, which are of particular importance for winter sports tourism.
